BlockerX
BlockerX review: is it free, is it safe, and the alternatives
BlockerX is one of the most installed porn blockers, with 5M+ downloads and a 4.4 rating on Google Play, and it has a free version with limits and ads; Premium is $109.96 a year on its website. Whether it’s safe for you depends on how much access you’re happy to give: it blocks mainly through Android’s Accessibility service, and its own Play listing says it shares your email and device IDs for analytics and advertising.
Quick answer: Free? Partly; the features that make it hard to switch off are Premium. Safe? A long track record, but broad permissions and data shared for advertising. Alternatives: a free phone filter to start, Canopy for AI filtering with an approval step, Covenant Eyes if you want a person to see your screen, and QUIT (ours) for a blocker with urge help.
Who wrote this: we make QUIT Porn Blocker, which competes with BlockerX. We haven’t used BlockerX, so this isn’t a hands-on review. Every fact comes from BlockerX’s own website, its store listings or published reporting, checked on 14 October 2026 and linked at the end.
What BlockerX is
- Blocking: adult sites and keywords, chosen apps and websites, and categories such as gambling, gaming, dating and social media. It forces SafeSearch on search engines and Restricted Mode on YouTube.
- How it blocks on Android: its Play listing says it uses the Accessibility service to block adult sites and draws a block screen over other apps. A VPN is used only if you turn on “block across browsers”.
- Accountability: an optional partner, who is notified if you uninstall the app.
- Extras: a community, articles and video courses.
- Platforms: Android, iPhone, a Chrome extension, Windows and Mac.
Ratings: 4.4 on Google Play (about 316,000 reviews, 5M+ downloads); 4.4 on the App Store (about 8,300 ratings).
Is BlockerX free?
Partly. Its Android page splits the features like this:
- Free: the porn blocker, adding a partner, filtered search results, the community, learning resources, and blocking keywords, websites and apps (with limits).
- Premium: blocking in all browsers, blocking inside in-app browsers, “Prevent Uninstall”, and a daily report to your partner. Its Play listing adds gambling blocking, and its premium page says Premium removes ads from the app.
What Premium costs. On 14 October 2026 the main premium page listed $109.96 a year (shown as 54% off, with a 1-day free trial) or $199.97 lifetime (shown as 66% off, with a 3-day money-back guarantee). Its Android page showed a different lifetime price, and the iPhone app lists yearly plans at $49.99, $99.99 and $139.99 and lifetime at $149.99. The price you’re offered may vary, so read the final screen before you pay.
Is BlockerX safe?
Here’s what BlockerX itself declares. These are the developer’s own statements on 14 October 2026.
- Permissions on Android: the Accessibility service, which lets an app see what’s on your screen; “draw over other apps” for the block screen; and an optional VPN. BlockerX says it uses these to block content.
- Data shared with other companies (Google Play data safety): your email address (for analytics and advertising or marketing), user IDs (analytics), device IDs (advertising or marketing) and crash logs.
- Data collected: name, email, user IDs, device IDs, installed apps and purchase history, plus optional voice recordings and files. Data is encrypted in transit, and you can request deletion.
- Ads: Google Play labels it “Contains ads”.
- App Store: purchases, identifiers and usage data are listed as “used to track you”.
- Who makes it: Atmana Tech – FZCO, registered in Dubai Silicon Oasis, UAE.
Our read: nothing here means BlockerX is unsafe. It does mean you’re trusting it with a lot. If you’d rather a blocker didn’t read your screen or share data for advertising, check those two points on any app you consider.
What reviewers mention
From the reviews shown on its store pages on 14 October 2026: people say it works and like that it can block things such as Instagram search and Reels. Complaints in those reviews include repeated “last chance” upgrade offers when you start, ads for the company’s other products even in Premium, having to add sites by hand, false “VPN disconnected” alerts on iPhone, and the price.
Before you pay for any blocker
Five checks that take ten minutes and apply to BlockerX, QUIT or anything else:
- Read the data section. On Google Play, open the listing and tap Data safety, then See details. On the App Store, scroll to App Privacy. Look for what’s shared with other companies and whether data is encrypted.
- Check the permissions it needs to block. Accessibility access lets an app see your screen. A VPN-based blocker sees website look-ups. Neither is wrong, but know which you’re agreeing to.
- Find out which features are free. The features that make a blocker hold, such as uninstall protection and blocking in every browser, are often paid.
- Read the price after the trial, and where you’d cancel: in Google Play or the App Store, or on the company’s website.
- Ask what happens in a weak moment. Is there a delay before you can switch it off, a partner who has to approve, or nothing at all?

BlockerX alternatives
Free first: your phone’s own filter
Android’s Private DNS setting blocks known adult sites in every app for free, and some filters also lock SafeSearch and YouTube Restricted Mode. On iPhone, Screen Time has a free adult-website filter. Both take seconds to switch off and nobody is told. See the Private DNS setup →
Canopy
An AI filter that checks images, videos and pages as they load, with a human partner or an “AI Ally” who must approve any request to lower protection, and removal prevention in every plan. From $8.33 a month billed yearly for one device. It started as a parental-control app. Our full Canopy comparison →
Good fit if you want filtering inside social apps and an approval step, and don’t mind paying per device.
Covenant Eyes
Built on accountability: an ally reviews blurred screenshots of your screen, taken at least once a minute, and blocking is included. $18 a month or $198 a year on its website, for up to 10 people on unlimited devices. Our full Covenant Eyes comparison →
Good fit if secrecy is the problem and you have someone willing to be your ally.
QUIT (ours)
QUIT is the one we make, so weigh this with that in mind. It does fewer things than BlockerX on purpose and focuses on two moments: the block itself, and the urge that comes before it.
- How it blocks on Android: it filters website look-ups on the phone through Android’s VPN feature, in every browser and app. It doesn’t need Accessibility access. The names of blocked sites never leave your phone.
- On iPhone: Apple’s own Screen Time adult-website filter, plus an optional delete lock.
- Strict Mode: switching protection off is a request that unlocks after 24 hours, or sooner if your partner approves.
- Help with the urge: a panic button, short audio lessons, an AI coach and an island that grows with every clean day.
- Price: $49.99 a year after a 7-day free trial, or $9.99 a month. No free version and no ads. On Google Play now, with the button below; the iPhone app is in App Store review.
Where BlockerX is ahead: a free version, keyword, app and gambling blocking, computers and a Chrome extension, and a long track record.
